The 11th Hour.
The 11th Hour is a 2007 documentary film, created, produced and narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, on the state of the natural environment.
It documents the grave problems facing the planet’s life systems. Global warming, deforestation, mass species extinction, and depletion of the oceans habitats are all addressed. The film’s premise is that the future of humanity is in jeopardy.

Before you watch the video, make sure you understand the meaning of the following words/ phrases.
Task 1: Comprehension
Watch the video and select the items that are mentioned in the video.
Task 2: Synonyms
- You can improve your memory of a word by associating it with its synonyms. A synonym is a word that has the same, or nearly the same meaning as another word. The following words appeared in the video, match them with their synonyms.
- Look in a dictionary and find example sentences of the words above. Try replacing a word with its synonym and decide if they are interchangeable in different circumstances.
- Construct your own sentences using the words above, this can help you memorize the words even better.
Extended Task: Collocation
Another method to improve your vocabulary is learning the way in which particular
words tend to occur or belong together - also called collocations. For example in the video: Do human race ‘create’ or ‘produce’ a problem [00:33]? Do we ‘pay’ or ‘give’ attention to our natural environment [00:39]?
