Working with words: Word Roots

Aim:

This page aims to introduce some roots of words that you will find useful.

Introduction:

Earlier in the course we have  learned about prefixes and suffixes. As we pointed out, having a good knowledge of these word elements is very helpful when you want to work out the meanings of unfamiliar words. This section focuses on another word element: roots. Many roots in English words come from Latin or Greek words. Knowing word roots will help you to learn or guess the meanings of new words.
