Exercise 9

Concordancer Exercises

Mini-Research Question 9:

When do we use ‘of' after ‘lack' and when do we not?

First go to http://vlc.polyu.edu.hk/ and find the "Web Concordancer" in the middle of the page.

Type in the word "lack" in the "Keyword" box. Don’t worry about the first box , which is set at "equal to" , just now. After you’ve typed in "lack" hit the "Go" icon.

  1. Find the examples of "lack" with "of". What is lack in these examples? A verb, an adjective, a noun, a preposition...?
  2. Look at the examples where "lack" is not followed by "of". What is lack in these examples? A verb, an adjective, a noun, a preposition...?

Remember to look out for the answers which will be given with the next question next week!
