Mini-Research Question 5:

What common patterns occur after the verb "prevent"?

First go to http://vlc.polyu.edu.hk/ and find the "Web Concordancer" in the middle of the page.

Type in the word "prevent" in the "Keyword" box. Don't worry about the first box , which is set at "equal to" , just now. After you've typed in "prevent" hit the "Go" icon.

1.     What common patterns occur after the verb "prevent"?

To help you understand what a 'pattern' is, in the sentence:

"she spends a lot of time on her studies"

the pattern is: "spend + noun+ on +noun"

There are 178 different examples of 'prevent', so we'll keep it simple and just focus on:

Lines 33, 46, 60, 61,62 and 63.

Look after 'prevent', which pattern do these examples have in common in these examples?
